Germany is expanding the installation of UV-index boards to promote sun protection and skin cancer prevention. In Würzburg, the local health department installed four boards at various swimming sites as part of a broader Bavarian Ministry of Health initiative. These boards provide real-time radiation levels and advice on shade, clothing, and sunscreen. The WATCH OUT prevention project, a nationwide initiative involving Deutsche Krebshilfe and the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Dermatologischer ~~Prävention,~~ Prävention (ADP), recently reached a milestone by inaugurating its 1,000th board in Leipzig. This milestone board was presented by Susanne Klehn, an ambassador for skin cancer prevention with the Deutsche Krebshilfe, at the Schreberbad outdoor pool. Following this milestone, the Schreberbad ~~in Leipzig~~ became the latest location to receive a board, completing the rollout of UV protection signage across all six of the city’s outdoor swimming pools. This specific phase of the campaign was a collaborative effort involving the Leipzig Health Department, Leipziger Sportbäder, Deutsche Krebshilfe, and the ADP. Officials noted that outdoor pools are particularly effective for health promotion because they reach many families, children, and young people. The project remains active in over 80 municipalities across twelve federal states, aiming to mitigate health risks associated with increased UV exposure and climate change.
