Valencian sovereignty and political mobilization

The Aplec del Puig, a traditional gathering for Valencian sovereignty, was scheduled to take place on October 25 at the Muntanyeta de la Patà. The event was organized by various civic, social, and political entities, including Esquerra Republicana del País Valencià (ERPV), Intersindical Valenciana, Acció Cultural del País Valencià (ACPV), and Poble Lliure, to promote unity and defend Valencian language, institutions, and dignity.

By the time of the gathering, the event took on increased political significance due to upcoming general elections. Nationalist forces, including Compromís-Front Valencià, used the assembly to launch candidacies for the Congress. The event also marked a political agreement between Compromís, PSPV, and Esquerra Unida to present a joint candidacy for the Senate. The assembly combined historical commemoration with advocacy for public education, healthcare, housing, and language rights.

Ahead of the November 29 general elections, leaders from Més-Compromís, including Joan Baldoví and Àgueda Micó, utilized the assembly to call for a ‘civic revolt’ to counter the influence of the PP and Vox. They emphasized the necessity of strengthening Valencian representation in the Congress and Senate to build an alternative to the current regional government. Baldoví specifically criticized the administration for cuts to public services and what he described as attacks on the Valencian language. The gathering serves as a symbolic launchpad for both the upcoming general elections and the 2027 regional elections.
