Valve Steam ecosystem and Android compatibility
Overview
Valve released Lepton, an open-source compatibility layer designed to bring Android-native games to Linux and the Steam client. The tool is optimized to help developers port VR Android games to the Steam Frame, a Snapdragon-powered VR headset.
Following the launch of the Steam Frame, hobbyist developers have successfully ported Valve’s ARM-based SteamOS to various Android-powered gaming handhelds, such as the AYN Odin 2 and KONKR Pocket FIT. By using the ROCKNIX Linux distribution as a base, modders have enabled the SteamOS userspace to run on devices with similar Qualcomm architecture. While these implementations allow SteamOS to run on non-Valve hardware, the experience currently requires significant software tinkering and lacks official support from Valve.
