Vandalism and interference with Flock safety cameras

Overview

Incidents involving the tampering of Flock Safety automated license plate readers have been reported in different regions of the United States.

In Brick, New Jersey, a man was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief for allegedly assisting in cutting down a pole holding a camera at an Exxon station. Police noted the camera remained operational following the July incident.

In New Mexico, Jevon Martinez was arrested after attempting to deliver dismantled Flock cameras to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office. Martinez posted videos claiming he was “simply returning them” to “liberate my people from tyranny,” referring to the devices as “tyranny trees.” This incident follows the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office ending its contracts with the company due to privacy and security concerns.
