Vandalism attacks against New Democracy in Athens

Overview

A series of vandalism attacks targeted New Democracy party offices and personnel in Athens. On September 27, unknown perpetrators attacked the party’s 6th Municipal Local Organization in Kypseli, breaking windows and throwing paint at the Skyros Street premises. The party condemned the perpetrators as “brazen thugs” and called for condemnation from other political groups.

The following night, the political office of New Democracy candidate Andreas Loverdos was vandalized in Dafni. In this incident, unknown individuals threw red paint on the building’s entrance and exterior walls. Loverdos stated that he was not intimidated by the attack, noting that he has faced similar incidents previously.

Reports indicate the wave of attacks expanded to include the office of Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Nikos Papathanasi in Marousi. In response to the escalating incidents, New Democracy stated that such actions would not “intimidate the party or silence its political presence,” while expressing confidence that the Greek Police would identify those responsible.
