Vasto municipality privacy violation sanction

Overview

The Municipality of Vasto was sanctioned 5,000 euros by the Italian Data Protection Authority for privacy violations involving its traffic light camera system. The Authority determined that the municipality failed to comply with European data protection regulations by providing incomplete information to motorists, failing to blur license plates of uninvolved vehicles, and conducting an inadequate impact assessment.

In response to the ruling, members of the Fratelli d'Italia party have filed an inquiry, demanding that Mayor Francesco Menna and the municipal administration report to the City Council on the specific measures taken to comply with the Authority’s prescriptions.
