Vaux-en-Beaujolais vineyard harvest accident

On August 22, a fatal accident occurred during a grape harvest in Vaux-en-Beaujolais, France. A tractor and its trailer, which was carrying ten people, overturned on a steep slope. The incident resulted in the death of a 17-year-old grape harvester and left nine other men injured. At the time of the initial report, two of the injured were in serious condition.

By August 31, the Villefranche-sur-Saône prosecutor’s office confirmed that all nine injured individuals are now “hors de danger” (out of danger). Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing, with preliminary information suggesting the tractor may have begun moving in reverse for unknown reasons.

The driver was taken into custody for questioning, though alcohol and toxicology tests were negative. Authorities have opened an investigation for “homicide involontaire aggravé” (aggravated involuntary homicide) and “blessures involontaires aggravées” (aggravated involuntary injury). The tractor and bin are scheduled for expert examination to determine if the cause was technical failure or human error.
