Vehicle theft and recovery in Peru and Chile
Overview
Police in Peru and Chile have reported the recovery of stolen vehicles following separate investigations.
In Peru, the DIVINCRI Chimbote special team located a blue Futon double-axle truck in Trujillo that had been reported stolen on October 1. The recovery occurred following the arrest of José Luis Ríos Espinoza, a suspected leader of the “Los Correcaminos de Santa” criminal gang. Authorities are currently investigating the gang’s alleged use of vehicle theft for extortion.
In Chile, Carabineros recovered a pickup truck in the El Loa border zone, approximately 2,000 kilometers from its original theft location in Concepción. While the vehicle’s license plates were reported lost, police confirmed its identity using serial numbers etched on the glass.
