Venezuela livestock vaccination and characterization efforts

Venezuela has initiated a national campaign to protect its livestock and improve agricultural data. The second cycle of a national vaccination program against foot-and-mouth disease is underway in states such as Monagas and Falcón. In Monagas, teams are working to immunize over 350,000 cattle and buffalo, while in Falcón, authorities have allocated more than 86,000 doses to protect herds. This effort is part of a long-term goal to achieve certification from the World Organisation for Animal Health as a foot-and-mouth disease free territory by 2030.

Alongside these vaccinations, the government is executing the National Cattle Herd Characterization Plan. According to Minister of Productive Agriculture and Lands, Vladimir Padrino López, this phase aims to provide a diagnostic of national herd size, producer data, and production methods. The initiative utilizes the Insai Hub technological platform to connect private veterinarians with the National Institute of Integral Agricultural Health. These combined measures are intended to support food sovereignty and increase livestock yields.
