The psychological thriller ‘Bunker’, directed by Florian Zeller, premiered in competition at the Venice Film Festival. The film stars Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz, portraying a couple facing marital strain after the husband accepts a commission to build a survival bunker for a tech tycoon. During the Venice screening, the film received a 15-minute standing ovation. Set primarily in London, the narrative follows Miguel, a Spanish architect played by Bardem, and his wife Sofia, played by Cruz. The plot explores the tension between ethical values and professional ambition as Miguel considers a lucrative project to build a survivalist bunker in Hawaii for a Silicon Valley tech mogul, portrayed by Paul Dano. Actor Patrick Schwarzenegger also appears in the film as a successful novelist. Schwarzenegger, a recipient of the Rising-Star Award at the Deauville American Film Festival, praised Zeller’s direction and described working with Cruz as a ‘significant opportunity’.
