Veracruz cultural festivals in Mexico
Overview
Cultural celebrations highlighting Veracruz heritage have taken place in different regions of Mexico. In Veracruz, the 30th edition of the Afro-Caribbean International Festival concluded with activities in Yanga, Cosamaloapan, and Veracruz. The event featured the ‘Cimarrones’ graphic exhibition, workshops in Afro dance and percussion, and discussions on Afro-descendant culture at the San Juan de Ulúa Fortress. Researcher Sagrario del Carmen Cruz Carretero received the Gonzalo Aguirre Beltrán Medal for her work in preserving African heritage.
In Ciudad Juárez, the second ‘El Veracruz del Norte’ festival was inaugurated to connect the local community with the Veracruz diaspora. The event includes approximately 65 exhibitors showcasing traditional gastronomy, crafts, and music. Proceeds from the festival are intended to fund the construction of the Casa de Enlace Veracruzana, a facility designed to support individuals from Veracruz and southern Mexico settling in Ciudad Juárez.
