Veracruz political party reorganizations

Political parties in Veracruz are undergoing structural reorganizations and internal assessments as they prepare for the 2027 electoral process. The Partido del Trabajo (PT) is strengthening its territorial presence by appointing 30 district coordinators to increase party affiliation and reorganize base committees from local to regional levels.

Concurrently, the PRI is attempting to establish itself as the primary opposition force by reorganizing more than 5,000 electoral sections across 212 municipalities. However, the party faces significant challenges, including declining voter support that has left it as the fifth largest political force in the region, trailing behind Morena, Movimiento Ciudadano, PAN, and PT.

Retrospective analysis of the region’s political dynamics suggests that the PRI’s current struggles may be linked to past leadership tensions. Specifically, internal friction between former Governor Javier Duarte de Ochoa and PRI candidate Héctor Yunes Landa during previous election cycles is cited as a factor that weakened the party’s internal structure and contributed to the loss of the governorship.
