Vietnam-China tourism cooperation in Khanh Hoa
Overview
As part of the Vietnam-China Tourism Cooperation Year 2026-2027, the Vietnamese government has implemented Resolution No. 325/NQ-CP to pilot a visa exemption program for Chinese citizens holding ordinary passports. The program, effective from October 12, 2026, through December 31, 2027, requires travelers to be part of a group of at least two people participating in package tours organized by Vietnamese international travel companies.
To qualify for the exemption, tourists must fly directly from mainland China to Cam Ranh International Airport and must enter and exit the country through this specific airport. The policy is restricted to visits within Khanh Hoa province lasting no more than 30 days. The exemption does not apply to holders of Hong Kong or Macau Special Administrative Region passports.
The initiative aims to prioritize tour quality and prevent “zero-dollar tours” and illegal travel practices. The measure follows a decline in Chinese visitors to Khanh Hoa, which fell to approximately 470,000 in the first nine months of 2026, amid competition from regional markets like Thailand and Malaysia and domestic destinations such as Phu Quoc.
