Vietnam electric vehicle market growth
Overview
The Vietnamese automotive market is undergoing a significant transition toward electrification. In the passenger car sector, electrified vehicles—including pure electric and hybrid models—accounted for 52% of sales during the first half of 2026, up from 41% in the same period in 2025. This shift is driven in part by increased affordability; new electric minicars like the VinFast VF 2 and Bestune Xiaoma 222 provide entry-level options for budgets under 300 million VND, a price range that previously necessitated used vehicles.
VinFast remains a dominant force, reporting 175,099 vehicle deliveries in 2025 and over 137,000 sales in the first seven months of 2026. In the electric motorcycle segment, VinFast reported selling over 406,000 units in 2025, representing a 473% year-on-year increase. During the first seven months of 2026, the electric motorcycle market share rose to 27.6%, while gasoline motorcycle market share fell to 72.4%.
Competition in the electric motorcycle segment is intensifying, with brands such as VinFast, Honda, Yadea, and Dat Bike vying for market share. Honda is accelerating its electric mobility efforts in Vietnam, delivering new models like the Honda CUV e: and Honda UC3 to government officials in Ho Chi Minh City. To support this transition, Honda is expanding its infrastructure through charging points and battery swapping stations, while continuing to maintain its internal combustion engine lineup to meet Euro 4 emission standards.
