Vietnam is advancing several major expressway projects to improve regional connectivity. In the Hue to Da Nang corridor, the 65km La Son - Hoa Lien expressway expansion is nearing completion, with asphalt paving exceeding 99% and a target finish date of late August 2026. As of late August 2026, the project—which expands the route from two to four lanes with an adjusted investment of over 3,270 billion VND—is in its final stages. While 42 of the 50 bridges are ready for traffic and 46 have been paved, crews are currently finalizing road markings, signage, and safety barriers. Construction teams are also working to resolve 22 landslide points caused by heavy rains. A significant challenge persists at the Km50+700 mark, where workers are constructing a viaduct in difficult terrain featuring steep mountains and deep ravines. Efforts are being intensified to stabilize the route ahead of the 2026 rainy season. By August 31, 2026, the La Son - Hoa Lien Expressway completed its first phase of expansion. The 65km route now allows regular traffic on the completed four-lane sections, though a temporary maximum speed limit of 60 km/h is in effect. In landslide-prone areas, speeds are further reduced to 30 km/h. While the expansion is operational, work continues on rest stops, intelligent transport systems, and landslide treatment, with full official operation expected by the end of 2026. Currently, trucks with six or more axles and passenger vehicles with nine or more seats are prohibited from using the expressway and must use designated detours. Simultaneously, construction has commenced on a significant section of the Quy Nhon - Pleiku expressway in Gia Lai province. This 68km component involves an investment of approximately 27,576 billion VND and includes complex engineering works such as the An Khe and Mang Yang tunnels, as well as bridge piers reaching approximately 100m in height. This project is intended to serve as an East-West corridor and a maritime gateway for the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam development triangle.
