In late July, provincial authorities in Gia Lai seized about 970 kg of frozen pork and chicken thighs that showed signs of spoilage and lacked proper documentation, ordering their destruction and recording administrative violations. This operation highlighted the continued application of Vietnam’s food‑safety regulations at the local level.

A few days later, in early August, Ho Chi Minh City carried out a covert raid that uncovered three truckloads of pigs—over 35 tonnes in total—containing illegal beta‑agonist growth promoters and, in one load, the African swine fever virus. All animals were destroyed to prevent entry into the city’s slaughterhouses, and officials began tracing the shipments’ origins while tightening random livestock inspections.

Together, the incidents illustrate an expanding crackdown on illegal and unsafe meat products across Vietnam, with authorities moving from provincial market inspections to large‑scale interdictions of contaminated livestock shipments.
