Vietnam gold market pricing
Entities: Doji · Federal Reserve (Fed) · Vietnam · United States · Saigon Gold Joint‑Stock Company (SJC)
Overview
By late July 2026 Vietnam’s domestic gold market remained under pressure despite mixed reports on price direction. Retail rates from dealers such as SJC, DOJI and Bảo Tín continued to sit roughly 18‑20 million VND above the international spot price, while spreads between buying and selling stayed elevated at about 3.8‑4 million VND per tael.
The week of 27 July saw SJC quote a buying price of VND 137.5 million and a selling price of VND 141.5 million per tael, mirroring the range reported the previous week. Investors who purchased gold at the start of the week still faced paper losses of roughly 9.7‑10 million VND per tael, consistent with earlier calculations of 7‑11 million VND losses.
A contemporaneous snapshot described the same price band as part of a “sharp climb,” noting a fifth consecutive session of gains and a rise in the international spot price to about US$4,080‑$4,100 per ounce. However, the domestic price range and investor losses remained unchanged, indicating that any upward movement was modest and did not translate into improved returns for local buyers.
The international spot price hovered just above US$4,000 per ounce, and Vietnam’s central bank kept the official USD exchange rate steady at 25,283 VND per USD. Analysts continued to expect a sideways market in the near term, citing weak buying pressure despite global factors such as a slowdown in US‑Iran hostilities and expectations of high U.S. interest rates.
Overall, the domestic market persisted in a slump, with short‑term holders incurring losses near 10 million VND per tael and ring‑gold products losing about 7‑8 million VND per tael.
