In early July 2026 a Vietnamese fishing boat (QN‑90568‑TS) capsized near the Cô Tô Special Zone in Quảng Ninh province. Six of the seven crew members were rescued after a prolonged search in stormy conditions, while the captain, Nguyễn Văn Thành, remained missing. Local authorities continued the search despite adverse weather. ~~Later in the month,~~ The following week, on 26 25 July, the Vietnamese‑registered cargo vessel Khoi Nguyen 18 sank near Fiery Cross Reef (Yongshu Reef) in the disputed Spratly ~~archipelago.~~ Islands. The ship ~~carried~~ was carrying 62 Vietnamese crew ~~members, all Vietnamese. A joint~~ members.
