Vietnam media sector restructuring and leadership changes

Overview

The Hanoi Party Committee initiated a restructuring of the capital’s media landscape by establishing the Hanoi Press and Broadcasting Agency. This new central multimedia organization was designed to oversee the Hanoi Newspaper, Hanoi Radio and Television, and the Kinh te va Do thi electronic newspaper to enhance information leadership.

Following this organizational shift, the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Hanoi municipal government implemented several high-level leadership appointments. At the national level, new directors were appointed to lead the Press Department, the Department of Publishing and Libraries, and the Department of Electronic Information and Digital Transformation.

In Hanoi, Nguyễn Thanh Liêm was appointed General Director of the newly formed Hanoi Press and Broadcasting Agency. Additionally, the Hanoi Journalists Association elected Nguyễn Thanh Liêm as Chairman for the 2026-2031 term during its 8th Congress, focusing on workforce modernization and adaptation to new media environments.
