The One Commune One Product (OCOP) program in Vietnam is showing diverse regional outcomes as provinces work to scale local production. Hanoi has emerged as a leader by diversifying into handicrafts like rattan and bamboo, supported by financial rewards and branding assistance. However, other regions have faced different hurdles. Nghệ An province has struggled with market stability, where producers of specialty items like sweet melon and ginger remain heavily dependent on middlemen and face price volatility. More recent developments show a shift toward internationalization and technological integration. Provinces such as Phu Tho and Thanh Hoa are upgrading product quality to reach global markets, including Taiwan, Japan, China, and the Middle East. Efforts are increasingly focused on digital transformation, utilizing QR codes for traceability and transitioning toward organic cultivation methods. Agricultural cooperatives are now driving this expansion through standardized production and trade promotion. In Ha Tinh, the Nguyen Lam Production, Trade and Service Cooperative has exported 4-star OCOP certified sesame rice crackers to Japan. In Phu Tho, cooperatives are reducing dependence on traders by organizing raw material zones. Recent efforts in Thái Nguyên have utilized digital platforms, such as a 120-minute livestreaming event on TikTok and Facebook, to showcase safe agricultural products from 16 cooperatives. Similarly, An Giang province held a promotional event in Hà Nội to introduce regional specialties like fish sauce and bird’s nest products through a combination of direct sales and digital livestreaming. In the first phase of 2026, Phu Tho province officially recognized 15 new OCOP items. This cohort includes six 4-star products—comprising five re-certified items and one grade upgrade—and nine 3-star products. Notable recognitions include a 4-star oyster mushroom In Hưng Yên province, the program has further enhanced product from Phung Gia Mushroom Co., Ltd. value through processing and 3-star Lien Hoa honey pineapple. digital sales. Tuấn Vũ Foods has developed processed Đông Tảo chicken products, with approximately 80% of output sold via digital channels like Facebook, Zalo, and TikTok.
