Vietnam power sector corruption investigation
Overview
Vietnamese authorities have prosecuted Dang Phan Tuong, a member of the Board of Directors at Dong Anh Electrical Equipment Joint Stock Company (EEMC), as part of a corruption investigation into the 500kV circuit 3 transmission line project. The probe involves the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) and has resulted in the prosecution of 47 individuals on various charges, including embezzlement, bribery, and violating bidding regulations.
Following the prosecution, GELEX issued a statement clarifying that the legal issues involving Mr. Tuong originated before his involvement with GELEX Electric and its subsidiaries. The group asserted that the matter is personal and does not affect the operations, financial management, or cash flow of its companies.
In response to the legal developments, GELEX Electric, CADIVI, and THIBIDI have initiated governance procedures to dismiss Mr. Tuong from his board positions, stating he no longer meets the required standards for the role.
