Transportation providers in Vietnam have progressed with preparations for the 2027 Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday travel period. Vietnam Airlines Group, including Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines, and Vasco, has launched its first round of ticket sales for the peak period from January 22 to February 20, 2027, offering approximately 3.7 million seats, an 11% increase over 2026. Vietjet has also launched early sales for 3.1 million tickets, representing a 6% increase in capacity. Vietnam Railways (VNR) has officially transitioned to the sale of approximately 300,000 tickets for the service period spanning January 23 to February 25, 2027. To meet demand, the railway sector will deploy 57 trains with over 800 carriages, including regular Thong Nhat services and additional trains connecting provinces such as Da Nang, Vinh, Nha Trang, and Phan Thiet. To stimulate travel, the railway sector has introduced several discount programs. For the 2027 Tet period, passengers booking long-distance trips (over 900km) at least 10 days in advance can receive discounts between 5% and 20%. Specific incentives include 10% to 20% off for students, 5% for round-trip tickets, and group discounts of 2% to 12% for parties of 11 or more. Additionally, to boost off-season tourism, the Hue - Tho Loc (Quang Tri) route will see a 40% price reduction for all seat types through the end of 2026. To prevent ticket speculation, Vietnam Railways is implementing stricter regulations, including refund fees that increase to 30% during the peak season. Regarding official holiday schedules, the Vietnamese Ministry of Home Affairs has announced that civil servants and public employees will receive a 7-day continuous break for the 2027 Lunar New Year, from Thursday, February 4, to Wednesday, February 10, 2027. For National Day, the holiday will span four consecutive days from Thursday, September 2, to Sunday, September 5, 2027. Under Notification No. 11483/TB-BNV, private sector employers are granted flexibility to schedule the Lunar New Year break to suit business realities. Employers may choose from three options to ensure a total of five holiday days, varying the distribution between the end of the Year of the Horse and the start of the Year of the Goat. For National Day, businesses may grant two days of leave, consisting of September 2 and either September 1 or September 3. Employers must notify staff of their chosen schedule at least 30 days in advance.
