Vietnam‑Cuba solidarity commemorates Castro

In early August 2026, Vietnam marked the 100th birth anniversary of Fidel Castro with two high‑profile events that underscored the long‑standing partnership between Hanoi and Havana.

On 3 August, the National Academy of Politics hosted a scientific conference in Hanoi. Speakers highlighted Castro’s role as an internationalist and recalled the historic ties forged by Ho Chi Minh and Castro. Both Vietnamese officials and Cuban ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes praised the enduring political and cultural solidarity between the two nations.

Two days later, on 5 August, Vietnam’s state publishing house, in cooperation with the Central Propaganda Department, launched a 24‑volume Spanish‑language anthology of Castro’s selected works. Approximately 3 000 copies were earmarked as gifts for Cuba, a gesture described by the Cuban ambassador as a sign of deep friendship. The publication reinforced cultural cooperation and celebrated the centenary of Castro’s birth.

Together, the conference and the book launch illustrate how Vietnam continues to honor its historic alliance with Cuba through both diplomatic ceremonies and cultural initiatives.
