Villa María New Energy project in Argentina

Overview

A public-private alliance has initiated studies for the Villa María New Energy project in Córdoba, Argentina. The project, a partnership between eab New Energy GmbH and SEG Ingeniería supported by the German cooperation agency GIZ, aims to produce green hydrogen and e-methanol at an industrial scale.

The facility is designed to use wind and solar energy to power a 200 MW electrolyzer. This process will convert green hydrogen and biogenic CO2, captured from the local corn-based bioethanol industry, into e-methanol. Technical projections suggest the complex could generate approximately 20,000 tons of renewable hydrogen and nearly 110,000 tons of e-methanol annually.
