Vincent Bolloré legal and political scrutiny

Billionaire Vincent Bolloré is facing legal and investigative scrutiny regarding his business practices and political influence in France.

In a legal development, Bolloré filed a criminal complaint against several Parisian magistrates, including Isabelle Prévost-Desprez and Stéphane Noël. The complaint alleges ‘association de malfaiteurs’ (criminal conspiracy), ‘obstruction of justice’, and ‘abuse of authority’. This action follows the rejection of a 2021 plea bargain related to a corruption investigation into the Bolloré Group and Havas. The investigation concerned allegations that services were provided at reduced costs to support Faure Gnassingbé’s presidential campaign in Togo in exchange for management rights at the Port of Lomé. A criminal trial for Bolloré and two former executives is scheduled for December 2026.

Simultaneously, an investigative book titled ‘La Droite de Dieu’ examines Bolloré’s efforts to shape the French political landscape ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The work details how he utilizes his media empire—including Canal+, CNews, Europe 1, and JDD—to support specific political figures and ideologies.

In response to media reports regarding his private views on potential 2027 presidential candidates, Bolloré issued a statement on X criticizing journalistic methods. He denied being directly interviewed for certain investigations and characterized attributed remarks as unprofessional. During his response, he defined his political identity as a ‘democrate-chrétien’ (Christian democrat). He also highlighted the work of the Institut de l’Espérance, a think tank he leads, which is preparing a manifesto to influence public debate on security, purchasing power, and civil liberties.
