Violence against journalists in Brazil

Overview

Recent incidents in Brazil have highlighted physical threats and violence directed at media professionals.

In July, a Record TV crew reporting live on a homicide investigation in Salvador was interrupted by an aggressive individual. The man threatened to destroy equipment and verbally assaulted the reporters, causing the team to withdraw from the area after the suspect fled.

In August, a cameraman contracted by GloboNews had his contract terminated following an assault on a reporter from Brasil de Fato at the Band studios in São Paulo. The reporter, Igor Carvalho, was struck with a headbutt, resulting in nasal bleeding.
