Violence and armed confrontations in Puebla
Overview
The state of Puebla, Mexico, has experienced a surge in violent incidents involving targeted killings and armed confrontations.
In late September, several fatal shootings were reported, including the assassination of Rubén Alberto Curiel Tejeda, a former head of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office in San Andrés Cholula. In the same municipality, a worker was killed at a taquería. Additionally, in the Chipilo area of San Gregorio Atzompa, a textile businessman allegedly linked to drug trafficking and fuel theft was killed by gunfire.
By mid-October, violence escalated to include direct confrontations with law enforcement. In Chipilo, a state police officer was wounded during a high-speed chase and shootout after officers attempted to inspect a vehicle without license plates. The suspects fled on foot, prompting a large-scale joint operation involving the Mexican Navy, the National Guard, and the Secretariat of National Defense to locate the individuals involved.
