A study by researchers at the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp), published in Ciência & Saúde Coletiva, provides broader context on these trends. Using artificial intelligence to analyze 90,798 hospitalizations of women aged 20 to 59 within the SUS system between 2008 and 2023, researchers found that an average of 15 women were hospitalized daily due to domestic violence.

The study noted that women aged 20 to 29 accounted for 17.2% of cases, often requiring emergency surgery for polytrauma or chest injuries. The use of firearms was found to increase the likelihood of abdominal injuries by nearly eight times. While punches were noted as a common method (14.2%), the study highlighted that 60.2% of analyzed records lacked information regarding the specific instrument used by the aggressor.

In São Paulo, data from 2013 to 2023 indicated that Black and mixed-race women represented 52.9% of violence notifications, despite comprising 32.6% of the population. Additionally, women aged 20 to 39 made up 71.4% of notifications in the capital, where sexual violence showed the highest growth trend.
