Overview

In early September 2026, the Guardia Nacional announced recruitment efforts in Mazatlán, seeking various personnel including medical staff and drivers to fill operational and specialized roles.

Shortly after, a violent incident occurred in the Palos Prietos neighborhood of Mazatlán, where gunmen dressed in black stormed a hotel room on Avenida Del Mar. The shooting resulted in two deaths, one of whom was identified as 23-year-old Alfredo “N”, a suspected member of the Guardia Nacional. The attack took place despite the presence of federal security deployments by the Army and Navy in the local tourist zone.
