Violence at local festivals in Greece

Overview

A series of violent incidents occurred during local festivals in Greece. In Pyrgos, Ilia, two separate brawls broke out at a traditional festival, resulting in minor injuries and widespread panic. Police detained participants but released them without filing charges.

Later in the month, additional violence involving minors was reported in other regions. In Vonitsa, a 17-year-old allegedly stabbed a 20-year-old during a festival, leading to the arrest of the minor and his parents for lack of supervision.

In Sitia, Crete, a 17-year-old Cypriot national was hospitalized following an assault by two Albanian minors, aged 16 and 17. The altercation reportedly began after the teenager danced with a girl. Following the assault, the victim was treated for injuries and discharged. Police arrested both minors; one admitted to the assault, while the other claimed he only intervened to separate the parties.
