Violent crime and arrests in Manaus

Overview

Police in Manaus, Brazil, have conducted arrests related to violent crimes involving residential attacks.

In one incident in the São Jorge neighborhood, Ezenilson Silva de Sousa was arrested for a triple homicide. Authorities report the suspect allegedly used a hammer to attack occupants of a residence in an attempt to secure money to pay debts to loan sharks. In a separate case, a 39-year-old man was arrested in the Tarumã neighborhood for crimes committed in 2007. The suspect was sentenced to over 50 years in prison for a robbery that resulted in death and rape, involving an entry through a residence roof and the use of a knife and hammer.
