Violent disputes in Gaziantep province
Overview
The Gaziantep province of Turkey experienced two distinct violent incidents involving community and family conflicts.
In the İslahiye district, a land dispute regarding olive groves between family members escalated into a shooting. A 60-year-old man, identified as S. Y., shot his 41-year-old nephew, Barış Yılmaz, in the foot. Yılmaz reported that the confrontation involved death threats and disagreements over property ownership. During the incident, the uncle reportedly attempted to prevent medical teams from assisting the injured man, telling them to “clear the area.” Gendarmerie forces took the uncle into custody, and Yılmaz was hospitalized.
In a separate incident in the Nizip district, a physical altercation that began among children escalated into a large-scale confrontation between adults. The conflict involved the use of weapons, resulting in the death of 30-year-old Murat Y. and injuries to four other individuals.
