Violent incidents in Chile and Argentina

Overview

In late October 2026, several violent incidents were reported across Chile and Argentina involving firearms and explosives.

In Chile, authorities in the Recoleta commune of Santiago investigated two fatal shootings over a single weekend. The first involved a 26-year-old Dominican national found dead on El Salto Chico street. The second occurred near the intersection of Juárez Larga and Juárez Corta, where occupants of a vehicle opened fire on a man, leaving more than 20 ballistic projectiles at the scene. Other Chilean incidents included a man receiving two gunshot wounds in San Antonio and a man in Quilicura suffering severe injuries, including the amputation of his left hand, after a grenade exploded while he was handling it.

In Argentina, a 42-year-old man was hospitalized in Paraná with a gunshot wound to the thigh. The victim and his family reportedly declined to provide information to authorities regarding the circumstances of the shooting.
