Violent incidents in Dominican Republic sectors
Overview
Two separate violent incidents occurred in different sectors of the Dominican Republic in late October 2026.
In Villa Mella, authorities arrested 27-year-old Nelfi Martínez for the alleged decapitation of 68-year-old Juan José Almánzar in the Mata San Juan community. Witnesses indicated the victim and suspect were acquaintances, and neighbors reported the suspect had previously exhibited erratic behavior. Investigations into the motive are ongoing.
In the Villa Liberación sector, a shooting in the Los Cristianos alleys resulted in the death of a 75-year-old woman and injuries to her 38-year-old son. Preliminary reports suggest the violence stemmed from long-standing disputes between neighbors. An individual identified as Jeury Cuello Martínez, known as ‘Boca de Chuleta’, is the alleged perpetrator. Forensic and investigative agents attended the scene to collect evidence.
