Visegrad Group diplomatic revitalization

The Visegrad Group (V4) has entered a period of renewed diplomatic activity and coordination among its member nations, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary.

In late August 2026, foreign ministers met in Tomášov to launch Slovakia’s presidency of the group. This meeting included the resumption of the V4-Japan dialogue after a five-year hiatus, focusing on technology, energy security, and geopolitical stability. Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski noted that the group was returning to a state where members could “coordinate common positions.”

By September 2026, V4 leaders met in Bratislava to align their stances on European Union policies. Key areas of coordination included the EU budget, agricultural subsidies, migration policy, and energy costs. Leaders expressed varying priorities, such as opposition to the Green Deal to protect industrial competitiveness and concerns regarding migration and potential Russian aggression. While leaders like Robert Fico and Péter Magyar emphasized the group’s renewed activity, others, such as Donald Tusk, highlighted the necessity of restoring the alliance’s former authority.
