Volaris airline market expansion and trends

Overview

Volaris has demonstrated significant market activity across various Latin American routes. In Mexico, the direct route between Puebla and Los Cabos, launched in June 2026, saw approximately 10,900 passengers during its first two months of operation. Rodrigo Esponda, Director General of the Los Cabos Tourism Trust (FITURCA), noted that Puebla is becoming a “key domestic market” for the destination.

In the international sector, Volaris has become the most searched airline for the route between Bogotá and Mexico City, outperforming legacy carriers like Aeroméxico and Copa Airlines in digital search volume. This trend is attributed to an ultra-low-cost model that prioritizes price and convenience. Market analysis shows Volaris prices for this route average approximately 1,259,300 Colombian pesos (around $400 USD), which is lower than Aeroméxico at roughly 1,422,254 pesos ($452 USD) and Copa Airlines at 1,485,310 pesos ($472 USD).

Further expanding its footprint, Volaris is strengthening connectivity between Mexico and the United States through its Guadalajara hub. Starting October 15, the airline will launch three new routes from Guadalajara to Raleigh-Durham, Boston, and Nashville. Additionally, the carrier has accelerated the launch of four routes to begin on October 1, including connections from Querétaro to Las Vegas, Puebla to Chicago O’Hare, and flights from Guadalajara to Washington Dulles and Atlanta. These expansions will see Guadalajara serving as a major hub with over 65 destinations, connecting the airline to 28 different cities in the United States.
