In late July, Volkswagen confirmed that its Electric Urban Car Family—comprising the ID Polo, Škoda Epiq, and Cupra Raval—had attracted over 70,000 pre-orders within three months of launch, with the ID Polo accounting for approximately 25,000. The company introduced an entry-level “Match” trim for the ID Polo in Italy and Spain, priced at €17,900 including incentives. Expanding the family, Volkswagen globally launched the ID Cross on 15 July 2026. The 4.1-metre electric SUV, built on the MEB+ platform, offers various motor outputs and battery options, with German pricing starting at €36,525. By late August, Volkswagen expanded its promotional efforts in Italy through a national tour titled ‘Volkswagen Electro Vibes powered by m2o Morning Club’. Starting 30 August in Riccione and traveling through cities like Bari, Genova, and Milano until 13 September, the initiative uses a “soft clubbing” concept—combining electronic music with morning brunch—to showcase the ID Polo and ID Cross in social, urban environments. Following a stop in Bari, the tour is scheduled to arrive at the Stadio del Mare in Pescara on 6 September, featuring DJ sets by NICE7 and Cosmo Dance. Local officials have noted that these free events help “valorize territories” and support local businesses. On the manufacturing front, Volkswagen is advancing its strategy to reduce reliance on Asian suppliers like CATL and BYD. The company plans to begin mass production of battery cells at its new €2 billion facility in Salzgitter, Germany, in mid-September. Frank Blome, head of the battery division PowerCo, stated the goal is to produce at least one million cells by year-end to support approximately 10,000 electric vehicles, specifically new small models manufactured in Spain. This follows the company's broader move to utilize a “unified cell” design and develop additional plants in Spain and Canada to secure its global supply chain.
