Volvo, Traton see surge in truck orders, including EVs

In the second quarter of 2026 Volvo Group and its commercial‑vehicle partner Traton reported a sharp rise in heavy‑truck orders, led by North America. Volvo’s order intake jumped 33 % to 63,412 units and Traton’s rose 44 % to 94,169 units, more than doubling the region’s prior‑year level. The stronger flow lifted Volvo’s adjusted operating margin to 11.7 % and Traton’s to 7.0 %, prompting Traton to raise its full‑year margin guidance to 6.3‑7.3 %.

Traton subsidiary Scania posted a 6 % increase in net sales to SEK 53.1 billion, an operating margin rise to 11.6 % and deliveries up 7 % to 26,274 trucks, including 265 zero‑emission units. Growth was driven by Brazil’s Move Brazil loan programme and the launch of the NEXT ERA line in China, while service revenue from contracts, telematics and financing became a key profitability driver.

For the first half of 2026 the Traton group recorded a 30 % surge in orders to 181,900 units, with North America orders up 141 % and Asia‑Pacific up 63 %. Much of the U.S. spike reflects pre‑purchase activity ahead of stricter EPA emissions limits slated for 2027. Battery‑electric trucks remain a modest share—887 of 151,500 deliveries—but Scania announced its Megawatt Charging System, a new under‑cab battery module, a landmark 105‑truck order from logistics firm Wibax, and a major expansion of battery‑electric capacity at its Angers plant.
