Voter list manipulation allegations in India

Overview

Allegations of voter list manipulation emerged in the Vijayapura constituency, where Congress leaders claimed that fake death certificates were used to remove living voters from electoral rolls. Industry Minister M. B. Patil further alleged that certain groups were bulk-submitting pre-typed Form-7 objection applications during the Special Intensive Revision process.

Following these allegations, police in Telangana and Karnataka registered First Information Reports (FIRs) against several Booth Level Agents (BLAs) for fraudulent Form-7 submissions. In Hyderabad, an agent was accused of submitting 30 pre-printed forms to remove a specific family from the list, while in Bengaluru, an agent faced charges for submitting 136 forms with forged signatures. In Bellary, an FIR was filed against an agent for allegedly providing false information to remove 7,561 voters. The Chief Electoral Officer has ordered strict action against those making willfully false statements, noting that some mobile numbers used for online submissions were traced to Andhra Pradesh.
