Vuelta Ciclística Femenina a Costa Rica competition
Overview
The 24th edition of the Vuelta Ciclística Femenina a Costa Rica commenced in late September 2026. Prior to the race, the Manzaté La Selva No-Varix team announced its seven-member roster, led by coach Luis Segura Avendaño, with the goal of defending their 2025 title. The squad included 2025 champion and mountain specialist Camila Valbuena.
On the first day of competition, Chilean Pan American road champion Catalina Soto, representing the Spanish team Laboral Kutxa-Fundación Euskadi, won the opening 104-kilometer stage in Cañas following a sprint finish. Riders faced difficult environmental conditions in the Guanacaste region, characterized by high humidity, wind, and temperatures of 32 degrees Celsius. Soto noted that the heat and humidity required significant adjustments, citing hydration and ice consumption as critical factors. During this stage, Elisa De of the Netherlands-based Global Cycling team secured the mountain prize.
Following the fourth stage, a 12-kilometer individual time trial between Cot de Cartago and San Juan de Chicuá, Colombian cyclist Jessica Parra of the Patobike BMC team took the overall lead. The stage reached altitudes of 2,800 meters near the Irazú volcano. Parra completed the trial in approximately 47 minutes, establishing a 31-second advantage over defending champion Camila Valbuena and a 49-second lead over Costa Rican rider Gloriana Quesada. Parra also assumed the leadership of the mountain classification. The competition moved toward its final stage, a circuit through Escazú.
