Wallaroos rugby team transition and performance

Overview

The Australian women’s national rugby team, the Wallaroos, entered a period of transition and professionalization ahead of the WXV Global Series. During this time, the squad faced uncertainty due to short-term contracts expiring at the end of 2026 and a shift toward aligning the XVs program with the full-time Sevens high-performance environment.

Following a period of difficulty that included a six-match losing streak, the team secured a 30-10 victory over Scotland in Edinburgh. The win was highlighted by individual milestones, including Michaela Leonard becoming the first Wallaroo to earn 50 Test caps and Desiree Miller reaching 100 career Test points.
