Waterspout activity in Greece

Overview

In late September 2026, several waterspout phenomena were observed in Greek waters during periods of intense weather activity.

On September 22, at least five waterspouts formed simultaneously off the coast of Corfu. This event coincided with severe weather on the island, including heavy rainfall, lightning, and hail.

Following this, on September 27, two waterspouts were observed in the Aegean Sea between the Cyclades islands of Koufonisi and Keros. This occurrence took place amidst significant cumulative rainfall recorded across eastern and southern Greece, including Euboea and the Southeast Peloponnese.
