West Bank mosque arson attacks

Overview

Reports indicate an escalation in arson attacks targeting Palestinian mosques in the West Bank. In the town of Michmas, north of Jerusalem, Israeli settlers reportedly set fire to a mosque entrance and a vehicle. The Israel Defense Forces stated the incident is under investigation.

Data from the Wall and Settlement Resistance Committee shows a significant increase in such incidents in 2026. Since the beginning of 2023 through October 11, 2026, the committee documented 23 incidents of arson or attempted arson against mosques and their facilities. Of these, settlers were responsible for 20, while three were attributed to the Israeli military.

The committee noted that 13 of these incidents occurred in 2026, which is more than double the total recorded in 2025. Attacks have reportedly expanded to include targeting women’s prayer areas and religious texts.
