West Mani emergency medical service shortage

Overview

The Agios Nikolaos Health Center in West Mani remains without reliable emergency transport following the loss of its primary ambulance in a road accident. After the 6th Health Region attempted to deploy a 30-year-old replacement vehicle from Pylos—which critics like ADEDY Messinia president Dimitris Favvatas labeled an “unprecedented mockery”—the substitute vehicle reportedly failed after only three days of service.

In response to the escalating crisis, Periklis Mantas, the Member of Parliament for Messenia, visited the health center and issued an apology to citizens for the insecurity caused by the shortage. To provide immediate relief, an ambulance is being temporarily relocated from Kyparissia to cover the area's needs. A permanent solution is expected by the end of September, when a new ambulance is scheduled for delivery to the region.
