West Pomeranian cultural and culinary heritage recognition

Overview

Events in West Pomerania have highlighted various aspects of regional heritage, ranging from historical preservation to culinary traditions.

In early September, the West Pomeranian Heritage Days were inaugurated in Mieszkowice. The ceremony honored individuals and institutions for their efforts in protecting local monuments and history. Notable recognitions included the gold medal ‘For Care of Monuments’ from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, as well as the ‘Swojski Zabytek’ honorary diploma awarded to several groups for preserving sites such as the House of the Burgher and the castle ruins in Moryń.

Later in the month, the region’s culinary heritage was recognized at the 25th ‘Smaki Regionów’ competition in Poznań. Pomeranian products secured six awards, including a ‘Pearl’ award for a dish from the Jan Siestrzyński Special Educational and Training Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Other winning regional items included traditional sausages, honey, gingerbread, and historical digestive drops.
