Western Balkans youth policy ministerial meetings

Overview

Ministers from the Western Balkans met in Podgorica, Montenegro, to coordinate regional youth policies as part of the Berlin Process. The meeting, organized by the Regional Cooperation Council for Youth (RYCO) and the Montenegrin Ministry of Sports and Youth, marked RYCO’s 10th anniversary.

Initial discussions focused on transitioning young people from beneficiaries to active contributors in policy creation, covering topics such as education, employment, migration, and European integration. During the proceedings, North Macedonia announced plans for a national aggregator to centralize information on youth programs.

Subsequent developments emphasized implementing recommendations from the Western Balkans Youth Forum in Budva. Participants highlighted the use of culture and sports to foster cross-border trust and connectivity. To support these goals, the meeting advanced the ‘RYCOncile – RYCO Youth Trust Fund’, a new mechanism intended to fund youth initiatives, regional mobility, and inclusion.
