Western Sydney economic and housing developments

Western Sydney is undergoing significant economic shifts involving both infrastructure investment and housing affordability challenges.

On the investment front, the region is seeing substantial growth driven by the Western Sydney Aerotropolis, where private investment has reached $34.6 billion. This expansion is supported by the development of the Western Sydney International Airport and the upcoming Bradfield City, which aims to provide spaces for advanced manufacturing and technology sectors by 2028. Additionally, a new tourism campaign, ‘A World At Your Doorstep’, seeks to promote the region’s cultural diversity, with visitor spending reaching $9.6 billion.

Parallel to this growth, housing affordability has emerged as a critical factor for regional business stability. The ability of workers to live near employment hubs affects the capacity of local businesses to attract staff and maintain household spending. To address barriers for first-home buyers, various government initiatives are available, including the Australian Government’s five per cent Deposit Scheme, the Help to Buy program, and New South Wales transfer-duty assistance.
