Wild boar activity and management in Turkey

Overview

Wild boar activity in various Turkish regions has led to both incidental encounters and organized population control efforts.

In Marmaris, a group of hunters from Kütahya encountered five wild boars roaming a street in the Çamdibi neighborhood during the early morning hours. The encounter, which was recorded on mobile phone footage, involved the hunters pursuing the animals as they attempted to flee.

In Isparta, authorities and hunting associations organized a coordinated drive hunt in the mountainous areas between Çünür, Senirce, and Bozanönü to address damage to gardens, agricultural lands, and residential incursions. This operation, involving approximately 25 hunters and dogs, resulted in the killing of 47 wild boars. Similarly, in Sivas, local farmers reported significant damage to cornfields, prompting residents to conduct night watches to protect their crops.
