Wild boar activity in Lake Garda

Overview

In early October 2026, a group of at least three wild boars was observed swimming across Lake Garda near Torri del Benaco. Video footage captured an animal jumping from a pier and swimming from the eastern shore toward Baia Stanca, a journey lasting approximately one and a half hours.

While the event gained significant attention online, local reports indicated that one of the animals was later found dead on the shore, having reportedly drowned. Provincial police eventually captured the animal. Although the WWF notes that wild boars are capable swimmers, authorities and wildlife experts advise caution regarding encounters between these animals and tourists in the region.
