A wildfire broke out on the Greek island of Lemnos, primarily affecting the Thanos area. The blaze prompted emergency alerts via the 112 system, leading to evacuations in the Agia Paraskevi and Profitis Ilias districts toward Myrina. During the incident, the Hellenic Coast Guard and private vessels conducted a maritime evacuation at Thanos beach, rescuing 59 people. The evacuation effort utilized a patrol boat, a rescue boat, a fishing boat, and five private vessels to transport individuals to Myrina harbour. Firefighting operations involved multiple ground 26 firefighters, nine vehicles, a ground crew, six aircraft, and a helicopter. While the fire threatened homes and occurred during a period of high fire risk with temperatures reaching 42°C, the active front was eventually brought under control. Crews remained on site to manage residual smoke and prevent reignition. In the aftermath of the blaze in the Ryakia area near Lychna, local reports highlighted a firefighter providing water to a hedgehog found in the parched landscape. The Arson Investigation Unit of Lesvos has been mobilized to investigate the cause of the fire.
